One of my favorite books I read last year was Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte, a deeply funny and disturbing collection of loosely connected stories. It really spoke to me because I’ve been too online since 1995 and I’ve maaaybe done some lurking in roleplay subreddits (I’m just curious)!!!
I don’t know the origins of this TikTok but it feels relevant here.
Also Tony wrote my favorite Grub Street Diet ever:
Soylent is still so funny. I would drink it but I worry the farts are too dank for my body to handle. Maybe it’s just my self-limiting belief that “normal” bodies can “tolerate farts better,” while my body is built like a fermenting crock?
Anyways, I made some quick doodles inspired by the pathetic-yet-relatable characters in Rejection, and what their fantasy versions of themselves might look like.

So, if any of you want a little creative assignment, the art prompt this month is:
a) choose a book
b) draw some characters as you imagine them
c) or illustrate a scene from the book
d) draw anything that popped into your head while reading. Simple!
If you want to share drawings in the chat, please do.

Some of you may remember the tulips I drew for this post about motifs, months ago?
Art prompts: motifs
This is an easy exercise! It’s great for when you’re feeling creatively stumped on what to work on next, or are having trouble getting started on a project.
I double-dipped and used some of those drawings as a base for BANDWAVE’s album cover, which I designed in collaboration with Hallie Bateman and Amanda de los Reyes:
This album is so good. Ariana’s singing reminds me a little bit of Aimee Mann. She and Jeff are both so brilliant and wonderful!
A quick clip from their album release party.
We painted the album sorta “exquisite corpse” style and I was the last one to go, so the imagery was a fun surprise to me. All we got was a color palette, no other rules. I really liked some of my tulip drawings so I stuck with that motif!
And I added flying cats to the back cover, why not:

A final image for my fellow Pikmin Bloom players, because only you would understand the things I had to go through to get this ugly hat (and shirt):
That crostini rock pikmin is my in-game biological daughter.
